Good evening to all you lovely players and GMs.
I have been having a craving for a superhero RPG as of late, having just seen Thor: Ragnarok and several of the Captain America movies. I really love the Marvel movies and it's making me want to play, but since our current GM is already swamped with running his games and another friend working on a game of his own, it boils down to me to set up and run this game.
My request for assistance is two fold.
First, I'd like help finding a suitable RPG to use. I'd prefer one that has a decent amount of crunch but isn't going to get bogged down. We have experience in Dungeons & Dragons, Shadowrun, and a few other systems, so we are extremely flexible on that when it comes to game mechanics.
Second, I was hoping for advice on what type of scenarios work best with the recommended systems from the first part. I'm asking this because while I fully intend to read into each system recommended, it helps if I could have an idea of what, in your opinion, works best for the given system. Does one system focus entirely on punching bad guys and doesn't require thinking while another allows for the heroes to talk a villain down? Are the heroes all wearing masks and capes and fly around saving the day? Or are they just normal people who happen to have a few special abilities?
Thank you very much for all your help, and as always, happy gaming.
