So im trying my hand at a first play thought of this game. its neat!

Im confused about movement/ calendar

So i have made my first move from Odoak to a meadow 3 paths away (by the way - Do i have to utilize all 3 paths (speed 3)??. So my encounter is a messenger dropped a package - I have chosen to deliver the package 4 paths away.

My confusion is this

The book says my Move is not complete until I have resolved an encounter. So do i just now move an additional 4 paths to deliver the package or do i cross a day off - move 3 paths (my speed) cross a day off and then move 1 path to arrive at the encounter destination?

Feel like the book could have provided a few more working examples
