Post Body

Just published today! This is my first published game. I know the denizens of /rpg to be some of the most informed and experienced players out there, so I wanted to share this here.

I suspect that a significant portion of the sub didn't make it past the "rules-light" and "narrative based" portion of the title, and that's okay! For the rest of you, here are some of the highlights that may help you determine if you have remaining interest in this.

  • 80 pages: 15 pages of the basic guidelines, 65 pages of optional rules and supporting material.
  • 2d6 based system; to succeed in actions, GMs establish a difficulty based on their own judgement (examples are provided) and PCs meet or exceed that difficulty on a 2d6 roll contributing aspects from their character sheet.
  • Many suggestions and guidelines, but only one rule: every part of the game and player action serves the story.
  • No lists of classes, abilities, equipment, perks or other character elements -- anything is possible.
  • Players only determine their character's name and class; sheets are passed around the table for the other players to fill in the rest: Attributes, Powers & Abilities, Equipment, Traits & Quirks.
  • Simplified combat based on attacking an enemy, defending yourself and both. No initiatives, no armor classes, no action economy.
  • No interior artwork. This is a book full of text helping you to tell your stories, not showing you my visions of stories. Also, budget.
  • No lore. Again, I'm not trying to establish my own world to constrain anyone's adventures.

Is this combination of structure and ideas new and different enough to appeal to some of you? Perhaps. Even those who are not interested in buying are invited to partake in a project to generate dozens of playable characters in community fashion much like at a table playing the game. (These characters will be transferred to official sheets and made available as a free download later.)

The game is currently available at Itch.io; it will be available at DriveThruRPG when they finish their three-day check of verifying that I have thumbnails and what have you. It is currently only available in PDF format; the print versions require both access to and expertise in Adobe InDesign, which I do not have.
