Postman picked up packaged, but one is lost, I have no confirmation

Had a package to be picked up and gave the post-man another 2 packages, one 2nd class and one "next day delivery before 1pm". He happily picked up both up. The 2nd class was trackable right away, the "next day" one hasn't shown up on tracking and didn't arrive at destination. I have no proof of postage as I only seen him scan the item and it wasn't the one arranged for pick up, he just said he's happy to take it. The package is worth £400, I don't know what to do. : (
