EDIT: This post is NOT about cruising other lines, its NOT about cruising w/out any kids. Its about those who cruise Royal and complain about the amount of kids on their cruises. - This is a Royal Caribbean Reddit, Not Virgin, Holland America etc

Several reoccurring posts happen almost daily - "How do I get from Airport to Cruise Terminal?" "How early do we get off the ship, can I make a 10am flight" just to name a few - Then one of the most complained about subjects "Quality of Food" and "Kids misbehaving"

So I'm going to address the 'Kids misbehaving' -

If you do not want to cruise with an over abundance of children, do the Following

  1. Book smaller & older ships, not the floating amusement parks, which are designed specifically for families.
  2. Cruise when school is IN session - September through May usually.
  3. Check calendars for US National Holidays - avoid those holidays also, as they are extended weekends. Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, etc. Parents are more likely to let the kids skip school for a day or 2 for a cruise, than 5 days for a longer cruise.
  4. Do not sail around the holidays (again, school is out)
  5. Cruise LONGER cruises - you will see more kids on 3, 4 and 5 days cruises, than on longer cruises. 10 or 12 days? We like them best :)
  6. If you do a cruise, and there is a rowdy gaggle of kids, messing with doors to cabins, removing decorations, magnets, blocking the elevators etc, just let Customer service know, they have cameras all over, and just LET CUSTOMER SERVICE Handle it.

Finally if you are a parent, and you just turn your kids loose to run around the ship, they WILL get into Mischief. Its NOT their fault, its YOUR fault as a parent. Bring games like UNO where multiple people can play. Even though I think kids have their faces in their screens too much, I'd rather have them do that, than causing a ruckus running up and down the halls, jumping down the stairs, etc.

Yes 'Kids will be kids' and 'They are just kids having fun' Their Fun STOPS, when it infringes upon other peoples enjoyment. These folks have also paid for a vacation, and they should be able to enjoy it without being blocked out of an elevator, because there is a bunch of tweens sitting in the elevators with their legs are sticking straight out blocking folks from getting on the elevator

Lets all us, use common sense.... ENJOY!

I'll add a couple more.

Adult only cruises. Yes, they have them.

Also went on a cruise out of Europe in 2014 and during school session. We had our four kids with us, and on a boat of over 3000 people, they were the only kids plus a couple kids of the entertainers. Sounds incredible, but it is true.

In fact, we stood out so much that a German passenger struck up a conversation with me in the sauna, asking me if I was the person with the kids. He asked me where I was from and how it was I had kids on the boat. Apparently, pulling kids out of school to go on vacation is not a thing in Europe. No home schooling, either. Result? Almost a kid free boat.

Sounds quite similar. My kids loved it as they had free rein to the whole place when I checked them into the kids programs.
