Newbie questions!
Post Body

Hey everybody! I've been taking my first rope access class this week, and I just wanted to post a couple of questions for my sake, and for anyone else's sake, that is also new to the trade and has questions that they might be confused about or scared to ask.

The main things I am struggling with right now are

  1. I'm a little bit on the bigger side, which is some thing that I'm definitely gonna be fixing for the sake of having to do this kind of work, but I feel like I'm really struggling with being able to "sit up" in the harness due to my natural inclination to want to lay back in it because of gravity which is making it way harder to work is there any advice for easier ways to solve this problem?

  2. Again given my height and weight I feel like I'm having a lot more difficulty than someone who is a bit taller and lighter. Is this an actual disadvantage or am I just doing things wrong which makes me work a lot harder.

  3. Are there any decent methods or strategies for better rope management? I find that a I'm definitely able to do the level one maneuvers but I end up getting tangled in the harness a bit so I need some better ways to make sure that the slack below my equipment and connections Stay a lot straighter and plumb to the ground.

  4. Does anyone know any decent acronyms or pneumonic devices to help remember these steps and processes for a lot of the maneuvers? They are starting to make a lot more sense to me, but they would certainly help me memorize them.

  5. Are there any tricks for helping to keep the rope below, my kroll more vertical when I'm climbing because I feel like any deviation from the fall line is really preventing me from being able to actually move vertical enough to disengage the kroll so a lot of the time I have to try a couple times to get the rope to feed when I am ascending

Those are the main things I'm struggling with right now before my test on Friday so if anyone knows the answers to these questions or has any other advice, I would love to hear it !

Thanks all!
