I apologize to your subs Mods if this is a low effort post. But I wanted a perspective from actual Bama fans. Florida fan, coming in peace.
So, first off, I'm very happy with our new coach. But in my view, Saban is not only the best coach in college football, but the best coach to ever coach the game--and very likely the best that will ever do it. I mean, I don't need to tell you guys, but the man is unreal. I support Bama (1) because a dear family friend played for y'all in 78 and (2) because of how much I respect Saban.
What I'm wondering is, how is he viewed by Bama fans compared to Bear? I believe they're tied for Natties (at Bama, with Saban having one more overall). But like. It's hard to frame my question. Is Saban viewed as better than Bear and Bear is more beloved, being an alum who famously declared "mama came calling?" Or is Bear still viewed as the GOAT there? I know there's no easy answer to these questions (I thought about just asking "if you could have either one as your forever coach [and assuming Bear could adjust to the modern game] who would you pick?"). But just any thoughts are welcome. I'm very interested in how he is viewed in relation to the guy who is basically your Spurrier. Because for us, we measure every coach against Spurrier.
