Overall, I really enjoyed it! TR below.
The visit to Purgatory, Colorado came rather unexpectedly on a trip visiting family this past month. They just opened the coaster this past winter. It was an absolutely gorgeous day. But going the day after July 4th, it was perhaps the most crowded it gets during the whole summer. We ended up waiting about an hour and a half. When we were just about to board, a brake mechanism got stuck and had to be fixed. No shade and a blazing sun made matters worse.
Finally, we got to ride. Three complete cable lifts (only two are pictured) mean you get up the mountain pretty far. Again, it was a gorgeous day and the view was spectacular.
The downhill portion was actually much more thrilling than I was expecting. I disengaged the brakes all the way down, and while it never got to insane speeds, it had a pretty good pace. There were some nice bunny hills with substantial airtime. It was also fun taking tight barely-banked turns at full speed.
I know there's some debate whether this "counts as a credit" and I can finally weigh in. While it doesn't feel completely traditional, it very much felt like a coaster to me. Then again I even keep track of the log rides I go on so who's to say.
So in all, I was pleasantly surprised by this ride! Great views, some speed and airtime make a wonderful combination. I wish I could see more popping up closer to me, but I don't see that happening in SoCal!
