It was a beautiful day in May and a friend and I decided to make the trip to rural Virginia to see King’s Dominion for the first time. I really enjoyed the park itself, despite a few maintenance issues on rides throughout the day which I’ll touch upon below. Overall, amazing park with some really fun rides. I’ll give a quick rundown of my thoughts on each:
Intimidator 305 (2x): this coaster is really something else. I sat in the back row for my first ride and second to last row for my second ride. I’d heard how intense it was beforehand but nothing can describe the feeling it causes. The first drop is perfect followed by an intense right bank that caused me to grey out on the first ride and almost blackout on the second ride. The whippy turns make the ending of the coaster great and the hill following the right bank gives some nice ejector airtime. The speed after the drop is pretty absurd and had my eyes watering from the wind hitting my face. The Gs you pull throughout the ride are pretty ridiculous as well. Overall, perfect ride and my favorite coaster I’ve ever ridden. Only issue was it was down for maintenance most of the day, but eventually was fully opened. My expectations going in were based off of Superman The Ride at Six Flags New England and this ride blew it outta the water. 10/10
Twisted Timbers (2x): another really great ride. This was the 5th RMC coaster I’ve been on and each have been incredible. The first element, while a cool novelty going directly into a roll, I found slightly underwhelming. Besides that, it was amazing - tons of poppy airtime hills, liked the stall element a lot mid course, and overall the ride flies through elements pretty seamlessly. With that said, I wish it had a traditional RMC drop at the start like Goliath or Steel Vengeance. 9/10
Dominator (1x): fun B&M flourless ride. Reminded me a bit of Hulk at Universal without the launch. Fun elements, and I was surprised how quickly it got through the layout. Hate the mid course brake run though. 8/10
Backlot Stunt Coaster (1x): solid Premier Rides coaster, I’m biased cause of Mr. Freeze at my home park. The launches were fun, as was the dark section. This one surprised me as well. 7/10
Apple Zapple (1x): first wild mouse I’d been on in years. Actually wasn’t terrible. Slightly rough but one of the drops gave some airtime. 5/10
Reptilian (1x): unique ride type that I hadn’t experienced before. Fun, faster than I thought it’d be. 5/10
Flight of Fear: didn’t get on this one because I was waiting for Intimidator to start up again, but my friend said it was intense and he would recommend.
Racer 75: line was too long and our fast passes didn’t work on it so didn’t get a chance to ride it.
Anything not mentioned I didn’t have the time to ride due to the Intimidator maintenance issues. Glad I waited for it and got 2 rides on the coaster though. Awesome overall day and really loved Intimidator, has to be my new favorite coaster. Last point, we got fast lane bands and it was helpful but somewhat not needed - lines weren’t terrible.
