frogcomposband: mint leaves
Post Body

Hi, I started the Djinni's Cavern quest in Thalos and the quest giver said I can solve it by giving the djinn mint leaves. I don't doubt my ability to defeat the djinn normally, but this got me wondering because I've never seen mint leaves or anything like them. Where do I get mint leaves and how do I give them to the djinn if I get some? Do I drop it on the floor or something?

Also side question: is Blue Mage just totally useless? I tried like 17 times to get it off the ground, but I don't even know where to learn low level magic. I tried waiting just outside town for novice mages and things but in the end it was totally ineffective, so how do you do a Blue Mage start?

Update: turns out it was a reference to King's Quest all along. No pacifism for me. :( Also, advice I got for Blue Mage start for future users is to rely on wands before you get good spells, and to buy a wand of frost bolt to help your damage.

Update 2: For future readers who may have been wondering about Blue Mage stuff like me, let me share with you some tips. When you start the game immediately go south to the 2nd dungeon (Rebel Base or something) and start stair scumming until you get monsters that know the spell 'shoot.' Novice rangers, snagas, culverins, and ewoks are good candidates. This is really useful early on because damage is consistent and it costs 1 SP at level 2. After that aim to learn breathe acid from the W slug monsters or breathe fire from the R giant salamanders in the same dungeon. Keep your eyes open for any other breath attacks monsters use (light breath, cold breath, whatever.) but it seems you can only learn spells when you aren't blinded or confused, so I wouldn't waste time trying to get for example dark breath before you have resist blindness. There's also RNG involved in learning spells, it's not a 100% chance. A bit later on look out for druids who can teach you firebolt which is a solid main attack early game. You also want to pick up Teleport Other from the Yeek President in the Thalos arena at some point, and summon monster (I got it from the cop quest in Ananbar) which is incredibly useful. If you do the mushroom quest there consider picking up Anti-Magic (I haven't tried it yet, but if it's as good against monsters as it is against me, then it's a strong pickup.) I also find Demeter Demigod is a good choice since they get a free self heal (based on WIS, don't neglect it if you go this route) and have intrinsic 2x regen to compensate for BLU not coming with 2x SP regen.
