What's the deal with Scales in Rocksmith?

So I'm pretty much a noob with the guitar. I started about a month and a half ago, and can play simple songs like Damnit by Blink 182, The Thrill is Gone etc. Only recently have I started practicing scales, but I'm really confused. For one, the scales in the the guitarcade, Pentatonic A Minor, for example goes like:

E----------------------------5-8---------------------

B-----------------------5-8--------------------------

G-----------------5-7--------------------------------

D------------5-7-------------------------------------

A-------5-7------------------------------------------

E--5-8------------------------------------------------

But online resources say pentatonic minor a looks like this:

What's going on? I can see the similar pattern in that picture, but why is there millions more notes?
