Coney Island Rock N Roll Roadshow
Post Body

These are only my opinions

I went to see the Coney Island Rock N Roll Roadshow at Firehouse 13 in Providence, RI. on Saturday night. I didn't read about it much before I went but I knew it involved Coney Island freaks and a burlesque show so I was intrigued!!

When I got there, I found out that 4 bands were going to be playing. (Even better!!)

The first band Diablogato got the night started. They were full of energy and got the house movin. The upright bass player played his bass while sitting on it relaxing or turning circles on the bass's endpin.

The next band was the Cannible Ramblers. I hate to say it but I had better hopes for this band. They did have an interesting look to them; one band member dressed in footed pjs, one dressed like a homeless guy, one looking like a pimp Santa, and "Pimp Santa" playing a guitar made from a harpoon. But when they started playing, it made my ears hurt. The sound was up too loud and it sounded like they were just jamming opposed to playing different songs. At one point, the "homeless guy" started yelling into the mic but didn't know it wasn't on so he looked like he was trying to cough up a hairball. I'm not into jam bands but I know this wasn't rockabilly, so this band kind of threw the night off.

The last band I saw was Potwhole I haven't ever heard of them before but I am so glad I know them now! These guys were amazing!! They had tons of energy, they tried getting the very few left in the crowd to participate, they were super talented.... I could go on and on about them but you get the point!

Sadly, I didn't get to see the Jesse Ray Carter Trio By that time, it was 1 am and I had to work the next day.

Between each act, there was a fella and his wife who did the "freak" part of the night. They were fun and amusing but honestly, I expected more freaky. I don't want to give away too many details in case people want to go.

As for the burlesque dancing..... I was expecting a few girls dancing but there was only one. She did a great job though.

I do highly recommend everyone checking this show out! It is worth the time and money (I only had to pay 10 bucks to get in. Plus the merch is very reasonably priced!)
