I would like to discuss with a few people how you would (or if it would even be possible to) adapt 2666 into a television series. I think we can all agree that a movie is out of the picture.
Personally, I think that it would make an all-time incredible series, but would it be able to be done as a miniseries? There's so much in the writing that could translate incredibly well to tv but there's also a lot of open threads and unresolved narratives that, while they work in the novel, might be frustrating for tv audiences.
The goal here is to gather whether a FAITHFUL adaption could be made and, if not, then how faithful or close to faithful could we get?
Would a book be a season?
What would you consider essential for an adaptation? What would you consider cutting out?
Would all the chapters be in order? Would you consider breaking them up? I think everything could be slightly broken up except for one part (I don't want to say which part, I want to see people's opinions first.)
Does the part about the crimes present an insurmountable challenge in terms of television depiction? Would you keep it as a whole? Would you inject it throughout the chapters/seasons/other books?
I have to organize my thoughts on this a bit further, but these were just some random questions and jumping off points if anyone has any ideas or opinions on the matter. I would love to hear what people think, even if you have a suggestion for an actor or a movie that reminds you of something like this.
Thanks for your time everyone. If you posted in the other general discussion thread, I'd really appreciate it if you could post your comment here.
