*This is just a venting session from a parent dealing with Roanoke City Schools*
My wife and I have two boys in Roanoke City Schools. One is going into Kindergarten at Hurt Park because he has Down Syndrome and that was the closest school with an opening in their Special Education program. The other is going into 3rd grade at Westside. Roanoke City Schools informed us in June of where the youngest would be attending Kindergarten and so we put in a transfer request for our oldest to go to Hurt Park as well. We didn't find out until last week that our transfer request had been lost. So I had to personally deliver that request to the downtown office last Thursday. Here it is, less than a week before school starts and I can't get ahold of anyone in the Transfer office to find out if the request was approved or not. I called Westside and they still have my oldest as registered to attend (so I'm assuming that the request was/is going to be denied).
It's frustrating that A) Roanoke City has a deadline of mid-April for Transfer requests; B) That they managed to lose our first request; and C) my sons can't be in the same elementary school and instead I have to hope I can drive both of them to their respective schools on time each morning, D) That it is so difficult to get ahold of someone at their office.
*Rant over - I just needed to get that off my chest*
*Follow up*
Do any of you believe in Karma? It seems, by some miracle, Roanoke City approved our transfer request. We just found out around 4:30 pm. I still have my issues with Roanoke City, but I will give them the credit they are due for this one.
