Tips for keeping Surinam roaches as feeders

Post Body

I’m gonna start keeping Surinam roaches as feeders for my Chinese Praying Mantids and would love some tips and advice!! I’ve got some questions:

• Should I get a clean up crew? If so, what’s the best and easiest option? • What substrate is best? Do I need a drainage layer before I add substrate? How often should I change the substrate? •How does one “gut load” roaches? • Are there any foods I should avoid giving them? Any foods I should prioritize giving to them? • Should I give them some sort of calcium powder or throw a cuttle bone in there or is that not a concern for them? • Should I be misting them/the enclosure at all or should they get most of their moisture and humidity from their food?

If you’ve got any information on keeping Surinam roaches even if it’s not something I asked about in my questions please share, I’m hoping to get all the info I can! Thank you!
