That would be a deal around 3 yrs/30 mil. I know people are already questioning it, he was on a vet min last year. He has been criminally underrated his whole career but in this playoffs he showed his true value. He had the highest /- on the team and the eye test more than checks out. He is incredible on defense, in the Dallas series against Luka, whose favorite past time is picking on opposing teams centers, stopped putting him in isolation.because he was so good on the perimeter.
Why would the blazers want him? He would be the perfect closing line-up center that we are missing especially after we traded away Nance. He is also a rock solid back up for Nurk and if Nurk were to get hurt we know he can hold the fort down defensively.
Why would the Warriors let him go they don't care about money? They wouldn't if the offer was a 5-6 mil per yr deal, even at that price it would cost them an extra 15 mil In luxury tax. Thats why you have to come over the top rope with the full MLE, if the warriors were to match it would effectively be a 3 yr/60 mil contract (30 mil luxury repeater tax). And I believe they balk at that number mostly because they have Wiseman waiting and a lot of belief in him. This would also be Looney's biggest contract too (he's 26 years old) maybe making him a little more inclined to leave.
Looney is an elite role player and I think if he were to leave the warriors he would have a similar recognition that Alex Caruso got when he left the Lakers.
