Bought a ring. Setup is unhelpful in that it tells you it you're typing in the WiFi password wrong if all your outbound ports on the firewall are not opened. And lets face it, if you want your ring to even attempt to function, you have to let it have unlimited outbound TCP and UDP access. You COULD program all the recommended ports in your firewall but the range is so gigantic that you might as well leave outbound for the device wide open.
However, even with leaving all the ports for the ring wide open, most of the advertised feature set does not work. Instead of listing what doesn't work, let me tell you the only thing that does. The ring registers motion in the defined motion area, day or night, and records that motion. You can then view that motion clip 5 to 10 minutes after the alert.
None of the other features work. None. Yes, I have a great Internet connection. No other WiFi access points are on the same channel. The signal strength from the Ring to the WAP is very high. My phone is on the latest version of Android.
Unless ring wants me to participate as a Beta tester and refund my purchase price while they try to fix these issues, the device is going to get returned toot suite.
