We've been working with a certified financial planner for many years with the goal of retiring early. I've hit my goal but my husband still has a few years left. He's happy in his job but I'm not so I want to retire in January. We did visit our CFP a few months ago with some questions about what we need to do, but it seemed like he mostly just turned to the page in the "book of numbers" he built for us, pointed at the right number and said "here is where you need to be, so it looks like you're good to go".
But my husband has more detailed questions. Like should I start drawing on any of my accounts, or how soon can I. If I do, how do I do it? Stuff like that. We can absolutely go back to the guy we've been working with, or we can find another CFP who is more targeted for clients who are AT or IN retirement. In looking at CFP's in our area (just a google search so far), it looks like all CFP's plan for retirement but I don't see that any of them specialize in working with people who are already there. Is there no such thing and we just need to have very precise questions?
