I hate the new employee
Post Body

Ive (F18) been working at this gas station for a little over half a year (which is long term because all my other coworkers last shorter than that). 4 people quit within a month (nothing to do with management, just different paths of life), making us very understaffed. A new person gets hired, and from what my manager tells me, this lady used to work at the store. Ill call her S (F~30-50?). I was confused on why she came back because she had caused a scene before with one of our night shift workers. They had closed the store for ~20 minutes to mop and she banged on the door because she wanted wine. When they let her in, she rampaged and threw items and left.

The first time i was put on a shift with her it was fine. She praised me for actually doing my job and working, which i thought was really strange. She let off a really uncomfortable vibe and i would work away from her so i wouldn’t have to be near her. I got done with the shift and all was well in the world. I get the shift schedule for the following week and see that me and this woman have three shifts together. Great.

I had told my manager a week beforehand about an appointment coming up so she would not schedule me for that day. A previous coworker was supposed to work that day instead, but asked for additional money to work (an entirely different story); along with two other people calling out that day. Because he wanted more money, he was not scheduled for that day and i was forced to work it. This also happened to be the day S was working, so this would be our second shift together.

My manager scheduled me for a time that would go directly through my appointment, so i let her and the other person i would be working with (not S) to expect me to be late. I was a few minutes later than i anticipated, so when i clocked in i apologized to my coworker and let her leave as soon as i came in. Because it was a weekend and right in the middle of rush hour (the store is in between a high school and two colleges, one of which was hosting a graduation), i was not able to move from the register for the next hour, because S would be clocking in at that time.

When S walks through the door, i greet her and she ignores me and immediately starts changing the coffee barrels. When she comes behind the register i tell her my plan to go in the vault to stock drinks because there were slots empty. I also let her know that only one register out of three is in working condition, so it wouldn’t make sense for me to be at the front at the moment. She immediately blows up on me and starts yelling. S continues to work away from the register as people line up at it, leaving me to stay there. When she takes my spot and i start cooking and loading items on the grill (im standing almost right next to her), S yells to the customers about me being lazy and wanting to leave her to do all the work in the front of the store. I don’t argue with her because im not confrontational, and keep cooking. At this point i just change my mind about stocking drinks, because to her its me abandoning her.

I stay in the front of the store, and its been less than two hours into S’s shift. S decides she wants to leave. Because she “doesn’t feel good”. As she prepares to leave, she buys two bottles of wine, four packs of blunts, ten chicken wings, and a case of water. Her uber comes and she leaves. For the next 4-5 hours, im completely alone. It’s nearing the end of my shift, and the night shift worker who was scheduled an hour before still hasn’t shown up, which i didn’t mind because he always does this since he lives far away. I realize i have to work longer than what i was scheduled for, because S was supposed to leave an hour AFTER me, meaning i would have been able to clock out if she was there. 30 minutes after my shift ended, im still working, S comes into the store. Is she really coming back to do only 30 minutes of work? No. She came in to retrieve something she had left, and walked out of the store. She doesn’t drive. She took an uber to come to get something she left, then walked out and left in the same uber. At this point im fuming.

I was at work an hour after my shift ended, essentially taking S’s shift, because i clocked out at her time. I let my manager know about all of this, and threatened i would quit if i was scheduled with S anymore after this week. The shit part? S wont get fired for her behavior at all. No one that i know of gets fired from this place. The owner of the store PERSONALLY invited her to work at the store again. She’s only been working for a week and i hope and pray she leaves before im the first person to get fired from here.
