Apologies if this post sounds stupid, but will this situation make me appear less reliable??
I had to phone in this morning because I have a stomach bug and am too sick to work, but I’m worried that it’ll make me look bad (despite it being out of my control). This is because the bug has been circulating so other staff members are already off sick and we have a temporary shortage, as a result. Me being off today means that there will be understaffing issues. I’m also missing some training.
My friends told me this isn’t for me to worry about, and that it’s better to stay off than come in and spread it more, but it’s my first ever job and I don’t want to let anyone down. Also, I really need the money for when I move out in a few months time, so I’m feeling guilty about missing a shift.
I messaged my manager who is away atm, and apologised then offered to cover other shifts when I’m feeling better, to make up for it.
My question is, is there anything else I could do to improve the situation??
This post is definitely full of anxiety, I can see that when I reread my words, but we don’t get real “sick days” until we’ve been in the company for 3 months, which is why I’m worried it’ll make me look bad. Any advice or replies are appreciated :)
Edit to add that everyone who works there is really nice and supportive, I’m just worried about letting people down
