I have a background in medical and surgical sales followed by software sales (SaaS).
Unfortunately, when I had my third child, she had major medical complications and so did I. It took a couple years to get her and my health stable. We moved to Alaska for two years to support my husband’s career allowing him to become an executive…then I moved back with the kids & went back to my old company.
They offered me a job as a remote worker but unfortunately within the year new management required commuting over an hour and a half each way 3 to 5 days per week.
Just as my daughter was stabilized I ended up finding out my son had severe learning disabilities and was parenting the 3 kids on my own while my ex still lived/worked in Alaska. I couldn’t commute (via water ferry) that often and far due to my kids special needs to I was forced to leave. (Funny enough, after the pandemic most of that company is remote.)
After that I ended up going through a divorce, having a child in crisis as well as having a surgery that created ongoing complications (followed by 2 more surgeries) during the pandemic.
Everything is finally resolved health & education wise for the most part and the kids are fairly stable. (It’s been a brutal 8 years)
I am itching to get back to work.
How can I be marketable when my resume has such a large gap?
How do I explain the gap?
I have always had people find me for jobs and recruit me but I can hardly even get an interview now.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
