Hey everyone,
My very first job was at a big-name tech company doing some data entry work. That was almost ten years ago, and since then I have worked much more engaging jobs in my industry rife with promotions that show a trend of upwards mobility and make my career look a bit more impressive than it actually is for its age (including my most recent entry as a managing member of my own LLC)
My current resume is one page, and in the experience section only lists 3 employment entries. I excluded the first job because it's been more than 5 years and also because of space - I have like 3-4 bullet points per job, and if I included my first job I'd be down to like 1-2 per if I wanted to keep it on one page, which is way too little
I've been in the market recently and spoken to a few hiring managers and recruiters. Some have told me "ok, so your career started with (second job)", and when I correct them and tell them about my first job with "Big Tech Company", their ears perk up and they instantly ask why it's not on my resume. One recruiter in particular told me, "why didn't you tell me earlier about this? I have a lot of tech-related higher-paying jobs that I'm trying to place candidates for, and the fact that you already worked here gives you a massive advantage". It also came up in an interview with a hiring manager who was very surprised at why I'd leave (Big Tech Name) off my resume.
I could alter my resume to put ALL my past experience going forward, but that will necessarily balloon it to two pages. I was always told that keeping a resume to one page is extremely important, and a classic amateur mistake is to let the resume get to two pages or more.
I also definitely can't chop out more recent employment. They're more relevant to my current field, shows upwards progression like I mentioned, and are crucial in order to not have massive year-long gaps in my resume.
What should I do here?
