“Let it be known that I, Peridot, refuse to move forward or back until I am victorious!”
Initial appearance/Current appearance
Peridot – full designation Peridot Facet-2F5L Cut-5XG – is a character from Steven Universe who first appears in episode #36, ‘Warp Tour’. A Homeworld Gem dispatched to Earth to check up on an ongoing project, she was initially an antagonist but ultimately redeemed herself and became a member of the Crystal Gems.
Suggested background music for this thread - ‘Peace and Love (On the Planet Earth)’ or one of her instrumental themes.
Abilities
Durability
As a Gem, Peridot’s body is essentially a hard-light projection maintained by the gem embedded in her forehead, which is her real body. If her body takes too much damage, she becomes unable to hold her form and retreats to her gem to recover. Naturally, destroying the gem itself will kill her.
That aside, Peridots are apparently extremely durable Gems, and she can take a surprising amount of damage before being ‘poofed’.
Crushed under falling rocks, climbs out and is immediately crushed by a large piece of machinery
Falls from a cliff high enough to poof a Gem Monster and leave a sizable hole in the ground
Slammed into a cliff face by a rudimentary cannon, then crushed under falling rocks
Electrocuted and slammed into the ground by Garnet, who is extremely strong
Strength
Agility
Technical Skill
Peridot is a qualified technician who is familiar with the majority of Gem technology seen thus far. As well as being an expert on the Kindergartens – the facilities used to create Gem life – she is a skilled mechanic and is often found building or modifying both Earth and Gem machinery.
Builds a large robot in less than a minute. Feats for the robot are below
Creates a rudimentary cannon out of a Kindergarten Injector. Exact timeframe unknown, but a couple hours at most. It should be noted that although it was initially functional, the cannon did ultimately backfire
Combat drones. These drones don’t actually have any feats yet, mind you
Collaborated with the Crystal Gems to build a drill vehicle capable of reaching the centre of the Earth. This did take them over a month.
Gem Powers
Gems share a certain set of abilities that are natural to their species. Peridot, who was created during a time when Homeworld was short on resources, lacks several abilities common to other Gems, but she does still have some powers, as well as a unique ability to control metal.
Standard Gem powers
Can create a bubble that prevents Gems from reforming. These bubbles are sent to wherever the Gem identifies as ‘Home’ – in Peridot’s case, the barn she lives in
Physical form adjusts automatically to the gravity of any planetoid
Like all Gems, Peridot is hypothetically capable of Fusion – combining her form with other Gems to create something new – but she has never actually done so
Common Gem abilities that Peridot does not have include shapeshifting and the ability to generate a weapon of her own. She also appears to have far less physical strength than most Gems
Metal Powers
Partway through the series Peridot discovers that she possesses the ability to manipulate metal. Although this ability starts off weak, she improves greatly over the course of the show. Feats will thus be arranged in chronological order.
Lifts a large sign with Lapis. Although it isn’t stated, given how inconsistent this is with her regular strength she’s probably using her powers here
Limb Enhancers
Limb Enhancers are artificial limb extensions that incorporate a variety of Gem technology. Peridot initially made heavy use of them but lost them when she was defeated by the Crystal Gems.
Contains a computer that can be used to interface with Gem technology
The fingers are strong enough to support her weight, although that probably isn’t much
Other Equipment
The majority of this equipment was only seen once, or was lost at some point before Peridot’s redemption.
Gem Destabiliser – an anti-Gem weapon similar to a taser. Although it is highly effective against Gems it appears largely ineffective against non-Gem life
Robonoids – a series of robots Peridot employed while still loyal to Homeworld. These (unarmed) robots are designed for maintenance rather than combat and are not particularly durable
Attack drones. Capabilities unknown
Peribot
‘Peribot’ is the name commonly given to Peridot’s giant robot. Built as part of a challenge against Pearl, Peribot was mostly only seen in the one episode, but did return a couple of times.
As Peribot was run through a series of tests as part of the challenge, we have a surprising amount of feats for it, despite its limited time onscreen.
