Sir Isaac Newton is known throughout the world as a physicist and mathematician, widely recognized as one of the most influential scientists of all time and as a key figure in the scientific revolution during the 17th century. Unknown to most people of the world, however, is that Newton served as the leader of the Brotherhood of the Shield, an ancient secret society created to keep Earth safe, working in the shadows of human history for millennia. Though the Brotherhood operated with boundless optimism for the potential of humankind, Newton made a startling discovery. When he attempted to "Solve for Everything" mathematically, Newton calculated that the world would end in 2060 with absolute certainty. Murdering the current leader of the Brotherhood and his mentor, Galileo Galilei, Newton usurped control and reorganized the Brotherhood into an organization that strove to assist "the orderly demise of the world." Prolonging his lifespan with the Elixir of Life, Newton led the Brotherhood from 1642 to 1960, where at one point he served as the Sorcerer Supreme when the Ancient One was thought dead. However, in 1956 a time-traveling Leonardo da Vinci returned and rallied half the Brotherhood around their original philosophy, resulting in a violent schism between the two factions. Newton was ultimately defeated by the combined efforts of da Vinci, Michelangelo, Nikola Tesla, Nathaniel Richards, Howard Stark, and his own Deviant/human hybrid son Leonid.
