Do you prefer permanent weapon upgrade (RE4 etc) or individual ammo enhancement (RE7 etc)?

Personally, I prefer weapon upgrade. I like getting large stockpiles of the same ammo type for improved upon weapons rather than having to juggle a bunch of gunpowder and stuff. Plus, it's exciting to see how the weapon will look after the upgrade. What's your opinion and why?
