I played and beat RE1 for the first time ever, here are my thoughts
Post Body

I’ll give a TLDR for those who want a summary, this will be a lil lengthy probably. I’ve been a RE fan since I was a kid, and would watch my dad play through the games, specifically 4 a lot, but sometimes og1 and 2. I’ve played all the mainline games besides 1, og2 and og3. I’ve always avoided them simply because I already knew all the story from 1 just from being in the fandom so long and I played 2r and 3r, so I didn’t necessarily feel the need to play the old ones (also og2 and 3 aren’t on the ps5 store so there’s that. But I picked up 1r on the store since it was on sale and decided to finally play it for myself. Even though I knew all the story parts of the game, like Lisa, wesker, all that, I’ve never watched a playthough of it before, so I was goin in as blind as possible.

The things that initially worried me were not having enough saves, running out of ammo and soft locking, the camera, and inventory space. I can gladly say, none of those were an issue in playthrough at all, besides inventory space. The camera definitely takes some getting use to, put honestly i adjusted to it pretty quick and it didn’t really bother me at all. Due to my experience with other RE games, I ended up having tons of heals and ammo, so that was never an issue. The inventory, however, was rough to get use to. I played as Chris so I only had 6 slots, and sheesh, it was tough to balance things that I might need. I know many here have replayed the game to death, but going in blind, there was a loooot of backtracking cus I didn’t have the right items lol and having to watch a 10 second door animation everytime, not gonna lie got kinda annoying, but in a good way. I honestly didn’t mind it, and it was kinda funny at times. I got Chris ending 5, which I don’t really know what that means other than there are a lot more different endings, somehow…guess I’ll figure it out. I’ll play as Jill to see the differences, but Chris was a good one to start on I think. All the good things I’ve heard about this game, yeah, it’s not overhyped, this game is really good, and I would put it up there with the great, which sounds obvious but hey, never played it before, I never knew how good it was. Lisa scared me a lot actually, everytime I heard her I would legit get a little scared and tense. Crimson heads are FAST why didn’t anyone tell me that lol. Hunters were kind of a pushover, idk if I got lucky with them if what, but every encounter ended pretty quickly and I never felt threatened by them, they look cool tho. Dogs were a pain, but are dealt with pretty quickly. The only place I got stuck at was the deer mount and the buffalo mount with the eagle tracking your movement puzzle. Call me stupid but I had to look that one up, oh well. That was the only one tho. All in all, great game, would recommend. 9/10, maybe higher, we’ll see once I play jill/do other endings.

TLDR: the game is great, and I did get tense and scared at times. My fears/annoyances were over exaggerated (I thought camera/ inventory space would make it unplayable for me, but actually wasn’t an issue at all) and all in all I had a lot of fun with it. Easily a 9/10. Would highly recommend.
