Had a similar dilemma with the Yakuza series, because of how jarring it can be to change between a remaster and a remake, but just decided I needed to see the series through entirely. However the jump looks major to me. I've seen the games have different protagonists here and there, so how connected is the story? Is it a bunch of substories connected to one major narrative, or just one long running one? This the most important factor in which I should start with, however I'm leaning more towards RE1 because its free on PS Plus and I'd rather not spend money on another game series that I end up not enjoying that much.
