[ModPost] On Sourcing and Vendor Discussion
Author Summary
hexachoron is in MODPOST
Post Body

Hi all, your friendly neighborhood neckbeard degenerate moderator here. Given the number of post removals and bans I've had to hand out recently I think it's time we had a discussion and refresher on the rules around sourcing in this subreddit.

Since I know a lot of y'all are fucked up on god knows what while reading this, I've made both simple and full versions. If you have questions, post them in the comments or send us a modmail.

Simple Version

  1. DO NOT ask for sources.
  2. DO NOT give out sources.
  3. DO NOT mention vendor names, including using initials or stupid clues.
  4. DO NOT discuss vendor happenings and news.
  5. DO NOT post about your orders, shipping, or anything else related to acquiring drugs.
  6. DO NOT do any of this in DMs either.

If you do any of the above you will receive a ban.

If you say "not sure if this is against the rules but" or "not sourcing but" and then do any of the above, I will double the ban length.

Sourcing drugs is banned across Reddit and discussing sourcing puts this subreddit in danger of being removed entirely. If you don't want to see that happen, then don't break these rules, and report rule-breaking posts when you see them.

Full Version

OVERVIEW

First I'm going to paste the relevant rules:

Rule #2:

No naming or requesting sources (in private or public)
Strictly no requesting, mentioning or giving sources of drugs or paraphernalia, whether legal or illegal. If in doubt, then DON'T. If your post, or a reply to it would make it easier for someone to get drugs, it's not permitted. This includes sourcing conducted in private messages.
This does not include harm reduction related paraphernalia such as scales, testing kits, syringes, micron filters and so on.

Rule #4:

No Vendor Discussion
No discussing vendors, either using their names or abbreviations. Vendors are not permitted to post here.

These are really simple rules guys, but I'm going to add some extra clarification around points that people seem to get confused on.

  1. "Drugs" includes (but is not limited to) research chemicals, pharmaceuticals, nootropics, steroids, cannabinoids, plants, "herbal blends", random shit you found at a gas station, etc. Basically if you feel any effects from taking it, do not discuss where to get it. This applies even if said substance is legal where you live.
  2. Mentioning vendors using initials, abbreviations, or stupid hints still counts as sourcing.
  3. Responding to someone that mentioned a source and asking them to DM you counts as sourcing.
  4. "Vendor Discussion" includes topics like selling, availability, shipping, prices, location, exit scams, general drama, etc.
  5. If you're not sure whether something you're about to post will break the rules, then send a message to modmail and we will do our best to answer your questions.

WHY THESE RULES EXIST

Reddit has a site-wide policy prohibiting "transactions involving prohibited goods or services", which specifically includes "Drugs, including alcohol and tobacco, or any controlled substances".

The mods of this subreddit have absolutely zero control over this policy. If the admins decide there is too much prohibited activity occurring in this sub, they will wipe it out entirely. It's already happened to plenty of others, and the only way for us to avoid it happening here is draconian enforcement of zero sourcing. Trust me, we don't like it any more than you do. I think /r/rcsources getting banned years ago was a terrible blow for harm reduction and directly contributed to an increased prevalence of scams and bunk / mislabeled / contaminated products. But again, we cannot control this, and losing the vast archive of information in this sub over sourcing would be even worse.

Note from above that breaking any of the sub rules in direct messages is also prohibited. Again, this is something we have to enforce, as other subs have been banned for this as well. The Reddit admins can view all your messages and track where those interactions originated. If a subreddit is seen as a hub where those sorts of conversations start, it will get removed.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU BREAK THE RULES

Your post will be removed and you will receive a ban, ranging from 30 days to permanent. Multiple or repeat infractions will receive longer bans. Trying to sell drugs on here is an irrevocable permaban.

If you say "not sourcing but" right before you try to source then I'm going to double your ban length.
If you say "not sure if this breaks the rules but" and then break the rules then I'm going to double your ban length.

I'VE BEEN BANNED, NOW WHAT?

If you think you've been banned in error (it does happen sometimes) then send us a ban appeal or modmail. Please include the post you were banned for (there is a link in the ban message) so that we don't have to dig through logs. Please be polite and patient, none of us get paid for this. If you were banned incorrectly we will remove it. If you were banned correctly but it's your first ban and you act like a civil human being there's a good chance we will give you a break. If your message has more slurs than punctuation then it will be reported and your ban will receive a free upgrade to permanent.

I'M STILL CONFUSED

If you have any questions please post them here or send us a modmail and we'll do our best to answer them. Please don't direct message individual mods, this will only slow down the response time. Additionally, if you're not sure whether specific content is allowed, do not post it here, keep that to modmail.

Lastly, I want to say thank you to the vast majority of you that understand and abide by these rules. Y'all are the best, I love geeking out about obscure drugs with all you crazy fucks. It's really only a tiny fraction that violate the rules, but unfortunately they still put the entire sub at risk. It's not fun having to crack down on people and enforce policies that I don't even like, but I've learned and gained so much from this place over the years that I'm willing to spend my time dealing with abject morons if it will help keep it around for others to benefit the same way. I appreciate all of you that make that easier to do so that I can get back to my regularly scheduled boofing.
