deciding on which rescue dog to get
Post Body

tldr; I’m trying to decide between two dogs, and would appreciate ideas on good questions to ask

So I am 21(f) and have an apartment in the city. My boyfriend 22(m) has his house in the suburbs right outside, and has his 6mo puppy there; but we all switch up living spaces and such. During the school year, I have class for an hour on Monday and Wednesday, then 3 hours max Tuesday and Thursday (one is an online class so if I rushed I could come home earlier). I work weekends (Friday and Saturday) at a restaurant (~$22/h) and sometimes on Sunday. If I had a dog, on days where I would be gone 8 hours I would A) hire a dog walker through Rover or B) let the dog play with the puppy in the yard and sunroom.

Based on my lifestyle, should I get:

Female dog who’s about 3.5y, 45lb purebred Aussie Adoption fee $250, we have met her and been in contact with the foster mom for a bit now. She will be spayed and ready to go home August 9th, she is vaccinated for parvo, distemper and kennel cough. She will get rabies and HW test when she’s spayed. She is already microchipped. She was in a home where it was her basically in confinement, and her foster mom said she had generalized anxiety but didn’t act out (it seemed like typical Aussie ADHD to me); but hasn’t seen her alone, so I’m considering asking if the woman that surrendered her has more info (I just don’t know if that’s appropriate). She’s been with her foster mom for about a week, hasn’t has an accident in “days”, doesn’t really bark at all. She’s a quick learner too like our dog, and while they were excited to see each other they were calm. Also she has long hair, so if you have articles to read on upkeep that would help.

Female dog who’s about 4, ~45lbs, Shiba Inu/Husky mix The adoption fee is $165 and includes spay. vaccinations dewormer, flea/heartworm prevention, and micro-chip. She was booked up with meeting other families, so we’re meeting her tomorrow. She’s very calm for her breed, plays well with other dogs, doesn’t really bark etc, and is independent. In short, many of the same characteristics as Fiona as it seems. I have yet to ask about how she’s doing with training and her backstory. Also, she just got spayed and has a cone, so I don’t know what my dog will think when he meets her tomorrow.

If you have any ideas on how to go about choosing, let me know! Feel free to DM me too
