Day Gecko UVB Lighting
Post Body

When setting up my P. grandis enclosure, I want to make sure it's as safe as possible. I will be using a ReptiSun 5.0 UVB compact bulb, along with a heat source, in a 18x18x24 terrarium. I realize that the ReptiSun only provides UV up to a certain distance from the bulb, but my concern is actually with how close a day gecko can safely be - if the bulb is in a dome fixture on top of the terrarium screen, how many inches should the basking area be from the bulb? Or should I raise up the UVB bulb from the screen a few inches?

I will have areas where the gecko can escape from the UV/heat lamp, of course, but I want to be sure that it doesn't get injured while basking.

Basically, I am a little concerned with possible burns/damage from the UV. There seems to be a bit of controversy on the subject!
