Background- I am in the military and was renting an apartment for two years, and took over someone's lease when I moved in.
The apartment was allegedly "professionally cleaned" prior to us moving in, but there is not a chance since my wife and I worked 3 days straight to get it livable. The were huge chunks of paint missing from the corners of the walls, blind slats missing, and dark black grout throughout.
Prior to moving out we repaired the paint missing in the corners (since our landlord was unreachable and responded to only one service requests our entire time there) and paid to get the house actually professionally cleaned once we got all of our stuff moved out.
I had to move away due to last second military orders on 28 Oct 16. We JUST received an itemized deduction list and check dated 9 Jan 17. After shelling out a $1000 deposit, we got $50 back.
Is that normal/legal? These charges just don't make sense to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
