Finding a place to rent with a large dog
Post Body

Hi all. I'm in NYC but I'm not even bothering to finding another place here with a large dog, this is a lost cause. I've been looking mainly in NJ.

I read that you can look at places that don't have comments on pets, or that say small dog, that you should go check the place out without mentioning you have a large pet and after you build small talk with them, you can bring it up. But wouldn't people get mad over this and feel you wasted their time and say no?

Plus, would that advice only apply to private landlords vs places listed by real estate places? Not even the just big named real estate places, but small ones as well. For example I was interested in a property from a real estate place that only has 3 listings and they look like a small private office. I ask because I know there's just generic ban lists. I have a GSD but he's a senior and doesn't do much other than sleep and go for walks!

Before anyone says "just try it", I don't want to travel over an hour, pay 40 dollars in tolls to get out of NYC, then an hour back just to waste everyone's time, so wondering if anyone has experience and can give advice. Thanks.

I also have a small dog, so I've been thinking of at least saying I have both a small and large dog.
