Been telling myself for the past several years that I'm going to move out of Texas. Lived here my whole life, tired of the heat and the politics, and just need a change of scenery. Trouble is I can't seem to find anywhere that fits most of my criteria. I understand I won't find somewhere perfect. I would love to relocate to a new country, but unfortunately I currently don't have a job that would allow me to do that so I'm a bit restricted. I've been thinking of moving to Providence most recently. It's a smaller city, close to larger cities, and less expensive than where I am. But I don't like how cold it gets. That being said, I do want to live somewhere that it gets somewhat cold, I also want to live somewhere I don't need a car, and where the state is more liberal and queer friendly. That brings me to places like NYC (too expensive), Chicago (too cold), or Portland (the whole of the west coast and the risk of earthquakes terrifies me). Oh yeah, I have a terrible phobia of natural disasters. Grew up in Tornado alley and spent every spring in abject fear, having anxiety attacks every time there was a big storm. So I can't live anywhere that is prone to earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes.
I'm willing to compromise on the cold, provided I dont need a car. Or compromise on having a car if I don't have to worry about driving in snow. I would live in a liberal city over a liberal state if all other boxes were checked. The whole of California, too expensive and too hot. Denver cost is about equal, it's also a very outdoorsy city and I'm not an outdoorsy person. I don't know.
This place does not exist. You see my problem? Lolol. Where could I possibly go? Just don't want to regret my next move, considering I will probably be there a while.
