I know the conventional wisdom is to avoid Federal primers in .458 SOCOMs because they have soft primer cups and could potentially fire when the bolt rides forward on a new round in a semi auto .458
But it’s impossible to find primers for the past two years and today I saw (and bought) two cases of Federal Large Pistol Primers. I had used Federal primers in my .458 in the past as I hadn’t heard anyone say not to and they performed great. Now that Ive been warned, I wonder how worried I would need to be if I loaded up a batch for the range?
Any thoughts? Ordinarily I would just take a warning and not worry about it and just buy some CCIs, but times are not ordinary, so how risky does the community believe this to be?
Edit: I also just had a thought, if there was an issue, I could swap in a lightweight low mass firing pin.
Thank you everyone.
