Post Body

I found this while walking around my childhood home in Eastern Washington. Doing a bit of looking I think this is a .44 Henry, but I’m not 100% sure. The H headstamp and the size align with that.

I also see two firing pin dimples, which to me says that this was likely fired from an 1866 Winchester, but I don’t know enough about either .44 Henry Rimfire or the 1866 Winchester to know for sure.

This was at an old homestead site, and while I’ve always seen bits of medicine bottles laying about, and an old pot or two, I’ve never seen anything like this. I can’t tell if it is copper or brass and don’t really want to scratch the patina at this point. It’s likely been sitting there for a hundred years or more on the rock I found it on, and it seems a shame to mess with it much.

Any thoughts? I know this isn’t strictly reloading, but I thought the brain power here might help confirm what it is and what it may have been shot from.

Any ideas for what to do with it? If I had a rifle in .44 Henry I’d display them together with a note about the homestead location, but I don’t have that kind of money, so ideas there are welcome as well.
