TL:DR My 03A3 loves the Speer 168's with 46g of Varget. Has anyone used Sierra's with Varget and what is your charge like?

I've been shooting at CMP competitions with my 03A3. For budgets sake, I worked up a load with Speer target match 168 grain bullets and 46g of Varget last year that has done quite well for me. My training regimen has yielded nice results too, so now I find myself in the tweaking and refining stage. Looking to gain another point here or there.

I have a match coming up in a few weeks (the wrong time to be changing things) and decided to do a quick experiment with Sierra Match Kings. They have a great reputation from what I've read. Also, measuring weight and length the SMK's seem more consistent than the Speer. An enticing prospect. The SMK is slightly longer, so I adjusted my seating die to keep the depth of the bullet the same. This worked out that my bullet was still within spec for COAL.

I ran a side by side experiment this morning and my results were inconclusive at best. Weather conditions were rough, so I didn't get enough data to say "the SMK's are worse." But I still have scores to look at and I scored better with the Speer, so I certainly didn't get enough data to say "yes! switch to the Sierra!"

All this to say, has anyone else played with the SMK's and Varget for a 30-06 load? What were your findings? My time is limited before the match, but I may have time for one more batch of test loads before I load up the ammo for the match if it's worth doing.
