Hello all!! I've been doing some self exploration as of late into my personal boundaries and needs from my connections and relationships. I've been polyamorous really my whole life, struggling against societal systems not really knowing why until I discovered it was an actual THING to be poly. Then again more struggle, all these molds to fit into... one day a friend pointed me towards Relationship Anarchy, and it was like a lightbulb went off! I love RA, I feel it describes my connection style... but also it has become a way of living for me... the anarchist ways flowing into all aspects of my life. But, I am always one to push to continue to grow and evolve. Hence the exercise into my boundaries (something I've always had issues enforcing my whole life)...
I want to ask all of you, as an RA - how have your boundaries and needs changed since you embraced these ideas? What are some boundaries you keep currently? It becomes tricky for me because I want complete freedom in my connections for all, but there always still needs to be personal boundaries involved to keep autonomy. And boundaries I previously held feel wrong, or subscribed to old societal ideals... it becomes hard to describe my needs without resorting to monogamous language- and even a lot of polyamorous language feel so constricting to myself and my people... For example, I don't say partners as my connections are all so vastly different, yes I have what may look like more traditional relationships but I also have instense connections without sex/romance I value them greatly- but I wouldn't say partner because of all the prescribed expectations that come with the word... and then I get myself twisted up in the details. How have y'all been able to navigate this? Or not - what are your struggles?
