Leaving non union

I recently changed from a non union to a union supermarket refrigeration contractor, many people at my old non union job left to go union. The old company is all through the north east and always had a hard time hiring technicians in NY. For me union was easy choice but I guess what I wanna know is if other states have stronger unions where it’s significantly harder for non union shops to find good experienced techs
