So I am aware that there are discrimination laws/rules when renting out an investment property, but do these apply when looking to rent out a room (aka housemate) in a house I own and will continue to live in ?
I have a 4 bedroom house with a massive backyard and would like to rent out one of the rooms since it’s an unused space. However, I don’t want just anyone living with me in my house; I want to still feel safe and have no conflicting/opposing values, so I’m wondering how selective I’m allowed to be.
These are some examples of things I would like to be selective about for safety and harmony reasons: - I’d prefer living with another Queer man (cis or trans) - I’d prefer living with someone who is also polyamorous or at least affirming/accepting of polyamory - I’d prefer living with someone that is out of the house during most of my working hours - I’d prefer someone that has a compatible sleep schedule - I’d prefer living someone who is very clean or even willing to do all the cleaning (reduction in rent if they agree to take over all the cleaning) - I’d prefer living with someone who is overall friendly or open to being friends.
So would I be allowed to base myself off of and ask about these things ?
Thanks for the insights.
