Redditisland CAN SUCCEED! Here is an Example ( Albeit much different that our direction)
Post Body

AUROVILLE

THis is a community of 2,100 people surrounded by another 40,000 in traditional Indian villages. THey started in 1968 and its taken them until now to reach a census of 2,100. That's pretty slow grow which is the result of their mission plan.

Auroville is essentially a pseudo socialistic corporation that runs everything through centralized planning and committees. they say it has no religion yet anyone moving there must accept their tenets of Yoga and Spiritual Consciousness. Kind of sound like religion to me.

They control the economy and act kind of like a central planning franchise that dictates what new business ventures get to start and what apportionment of revenue will be returned to the central committee.

So I would have to say this is definitely NOT a free market enterprise and in fact they are quite upset because free market enterprises are buying up land around their commune and trying to make money off the growing international population there.

HOWEVER, it shows that YES you can have a vision and you can establish a plan for how a new community and city/state can be created from nothing by bringing together the talents of like minded individuals from around the globe.

AUROVILLE is the example that shows Redditisland is not a crazy idea and it can work. In fact, given the same amount of time as Auroville, I suspect Redditisland will be a thriving metropolis of international people living in the modern, technological comfort city of 20,000 to 40,000.
