Curious, what does the follow_post API do?

I was looking through the Reddit API docs and saw follow_post: https://www.reddit.com/dev/api/#POST_api_follow_post
What does it do? My first though was that it controls whether or not you get inbox notifications for a comment or post, but that's the sendreplies endpoint: https://www.reddit.com/dev/api/#POST_api_sendreplies
If I try to use it on a post of my own I get a 403 error, so I'm honestly just curious what it even does. It's like when you find a safe in the floor of the new house you moved into and you just gotta know.
