it's blackpilling that no matter how bad reddit gets every offsite forum fails
Post Body

back in the day there were tons of forums. any rando could set one up. today it's easier than ever to host a site technically speaking, and yet every social site that isn't reddit/discord/otherwise globohomo-controlled seems to get 0 traction. it's like the end of Internet history or something. the future is just a gigajannie stamping on a human face, forever :(

i think it’s because like it or not, reddit has very simple and good ui and concept that’s easy to get into, and every offsite forum is either just a worse reddit copy, even worse 4chan copy or the traditional forum style. until someone comes up with something that’s better, ppl will keep using this garbage

the big issue is that most people who are using reddit do it through the app or mobile browser. on the former sub more than 3/4 of the users accessed it via their phone, and i’m guessing the clones does not have an app. even if they did most people would still choose the more active website :/
