I'm technical. I do C#.net and SQL and a variety of other technologies. I end up getting an interview with a company that not only uses my technologies, but is in the same business space (Health insurance and Health Care).
The interview goes okay, and midway through this young kid comes in and sits down. Couldn't have been more than 20 years old.I'm answering tech questions well, but I fail on two of them, more because I didn't understand what one of the other interviewers wanted, more than I didn't know something.
So, that same interviewer asks what sort of environment I want, and I respond, "Something where I am not working the hours I am presently. If I have a 60 hour week, that's a light one."
So, the kid pipes up, kinda muttering under his breath, but very audible to us all: "Well you might not need to work so hard if you knew what you were doing."
I nearly stood up right then and told them, "This interview is over. Thanks for your time."But I quickly thought it over, and decided to stay. Just because some little worm is unprofessional, doesn't mean I need to be. Out of respect to the other interviewers, I stayed.
Kinda weird how, if I am succeeding famously at a company that's actually bigger, as technical, and in the exact same business space... how ANYONE could think I "don't know what I'm doing." I bet I could run rings around the rude little punk. :^)
Anyways, I called when I got back to my office, and let them know I was withdrawing my application, and let them know exactly why, concluding with "I'm not eager to work around people like that...but I certainly appreciate your time and your consideration."
