Finally received a job offer after looking to escape my company for 9 months. Here are the numbers of my job search.
Total applications: 1393
Phone interviews: 81
1st round interviews: 43
Assessments: 10
2nd round interviews: 14
3rd round interviews: 3
Rejections without speaking to anyone at the company: 519
Rejection after phone call: 26
1st round rejection: 16
Rejection after assessment: 2
2nd round rejection: 10
Position put on hold: 13
Went with internal candidate: 7
Part time offer (after 3 rounds of interviews): 1
For anyone interested in the math… I only received a no from 41.13% of the jobs I applied to. 37.26% of the jobs rejected me without me speaking to anyone.
For every job I applied to there was a 5.81% chance I’d have a phone call, 3.09% chance I’d have a 1st round interview, a 0.72% chance I would have to do an assessment, a 1.01% chance I would have a 2nd round interview and a 0.22% chance I’d have a 3rd round interview.
If we take the total applications and divide by the number of days in 2024, I put in an average of 3.81 applications per day.
My best advice for those in marketing is to keep trying. Do not limit yourself to just your area of expertise. Try to learn marketing skills from those on your team so you can speak to those points in interviews.
