So this happened about 5 days ago:
I live in Texas currently, have for over a decade, but was born and raised in Minnesota, have family there, all that. I’m tired of living here and exploring my options to move home.
Applied for a role with a regional bank in Minnesota and was invited for the initial interview/phone screening and confirmed my interest. My resume and application clearly state where I live. Got the invite to interview a few days after applying and the interview itself was several days later.
Time comes for the interview and the recruiter calls me. Very first thing they say is that they see I live in Texas and therefore won’t be conducting an interview because they’ve had bad experiences in the past with people not relocating on time to work. Hadn’t asked me why I want to move, how quickly I can, anything about me or the job, just called it off.
What really frustrates me is that if that’s the stance they take, why isn’t their system filtering out apps from out of state? Who even looked at my app if anyone to decide they would interview me? And no one even looked at the app between the interview invite and the call several days later to cancel it beforehand? Just no respect for me or my time to invite me to talk and then wait until the scheduled interview time to decline a conversation.
Fortunately, once they decided they weren’t even going to talk about the job seriously with me, they went full disclosure with what the compensation would’ve been, which hadn’t even been listed as a range on the posting, and it wasn’t enough so I would’ve declined anyway. Still grinds my gears to just be taken so unseriously.
