VP of People reached out to me, pursued me hard and then rejected me
Post Body

So I get a LinkedIn message from someone who's the VP of people at a cybersecurity firm saying they're interested in meeting with me for a Technical product manager position. I didn't apply here but I have Open to Work (visible to recruiters) on my Linkedin and they found me this way.

She tells me that I have exactly the experience they're looking for and they would love to interview me.

The pay is nearly identical to what I'm making now but I'm trying to leave my current position so I say yeah let's do it.

I go through 3 rounds of interviewing, 2 hours each over the course of like 2-3 weeks. Each time the VP of people follows up and tells me everyone loves me and that things are going great. She's even prepping me for the interviews because she 'thinks I'm perfect and would do great here'.

I crush every interview, have great conversations and we're done. The VP comes back on and talks about all the great feedback she got about me and says 'If I call you next Tuesday and offer you the job will you take it?'

Boom, job is in the bag, let's do it. I'm already checked out of my current place.

Tuesday comes and goes. Wednesday comes and then at 730 pm I get an email saying they loved me but they 'want to keep looking'.

What? Looking for what? You reached out to me, told me I was perfect the whole way but you want to keep looking?

Who are these people? How do they get placed into positions like this? And who are these people conducting interviews that ask brilliant, probing questions like 'tell me about a time when you had to re-prioritize your features.'

I'm pretty pissed off right now and I've decided that I will just be flat out lying every step of the way in my job search from here on out. From crafting my resume to fit any role I see and then making up stories about my experience. Just going to be all lies because who cares?
