Either CareerBuilder.com is involved in a reshipping scam or their name is being used for one.
Post Body

I've received years worth of scam-spam job offer emails all in the same identifiable format. When these scams offer any info at all about where they supposedly got your contact info, they always claim it's Career Builder. My first attempts to get off this wild mailing list involved removing my resume and eventually deleting my profile on that site, but the spam persists.

They're talented at avoiding spam filters, even after I've reported many examples as spam. I'm now using inbox rules to throw them into a junk folder based on job keywords which, thankfully, I never need to worry about as these jobs are not in my field.

My advice to others is to avoid Career Builder in case they are involved and to make peace with using a service like SimpleLogin to give out fake/forwarding email addresses during your job searching so you can trash that info later.

Album of examples from the last couple weeks.

How the scam works

This is a well-known Reshipping Scam. You will unwittingly receive goods purchased with stolen credit cards and reship them to the scammers or to their paying customers. If this theft is investigated, you will appear to be the perpetrator.

The job title and description has changed a bit over the years. The first iteration I saw offered Quality Assurance jobs where you would inspect product for flaws and then forward it. More recently they've taken to calling the role a Supply Chain Manager or Procurement Specialist.

Identifying characteristics of this scam

  • The offer comes from a randomly generated gmail throwaway address, usually with a random first & last name and some random numbers. I've never seen the same sender twice.

  • Subject line is typically gibberish, often including part or all of the randomly generated sender gmail name.

  • The email is sent to one person but it's never going to be you. You and the rest of the scam-spam mailing list are BCC'ed. This makes it look like you're receiving an individualized employment offer.

  • Lately the offers all instruct you to contact someone at a random yahoo address. Never seen the same twice.

  • The job offers are all too high for the work they're describing, especially if (like me) you have no experience in the field of work. Working from home to receive packages, open them, repackage and mail back out is not a 6-figure job.

  • They love to include two bullet-point lists for responsibilities and qualifications.

  • Requirements are always vague enough to "catch all" anyone unfortunate enough to fall for it. Anyone in the USA can apply! You only need Microsoft Word and a driver's license!

Other scammers won't use that same pattern. Don't accept any job that has you reshipping goods unless you have strong evidence of the job's validity.

Since this has persisted for years from this one scammer, they're probably having some success and there's no enforcement to shut them down. Tangentially, it's a little absurd that modern spam filters can't identify this. Throwaways BCCing large mail lists are a clear red flag. Be safe and be wary of possible scams.
