Just got done with a recruitment call. First one I've ever received working in the restaurant industry. This is not an industry that uses recruiters.
So first off, they contacted me on behalf of a Hotel they though I would be a great fit for, told me they had a copy of my resume from Indeed and we scheduled a call for today.
The recruiter clearly had no clue what the service industry was like and still is like during Covid. He proceeded to ask me why the last 3 years of my resume had shorter tenures then previously, like restaurants haven't been wildly turbulent especially in heavy tourist areas (just moved to a new area from New Orleans.) Then proceeds to shit all over my resume and demands I redo it if I want him to even consider sending it off to the higher ups at the hotel. Like why'd you contact me off the strength of my resume if you thought it was turbulent and poorly written?
The kicker on top of all of this. I'm a they/them nonbinary and he actually had the nerve to tell me that I should remove my pronouns from my resume if I ever wanted to be taken seriously and that it would increase my chances of getting a good job. I told him "I wouldn't want to work at a place that didn't accept me for who I am, and honestly I have no desire to work with you or any restaurant that would hire you moving forward."
It was pretty gratifying.
