I have been on the job hunt for about a month now and I am feeling pretty hopeless. I know the process takes time, but I feel like I am spinning my wheels. I hired a resume writer to correct my resume and I am finally getting some more responses –– of rejection. I am looking for a remote sales/biz dev role, preferably in sales leadership but I stopped being picky.
I found a company I really want to work for and I was going to print this cover letter and resume on nice stationary and mail it to them. I know Reddit never holds back on their opinions...so go ahead and temporarily ruin my confidence lol. What am I doing wrong?
Dear Ms. [redacted] & [redacted] Recruiting Team:
I wanted to write to you to express my enthusiasm and interest in working for [redacted] . I first heard of [redacted] about a year ago and immediately the purpose resonated with me. As an Atlanta native, it is exciting to watch the city grow, but with growth comes crime. I believe being a part of the team who is actively eliminating crime would be extremely fullfing and at this point in my life being a part of something greater than myself is what I am seeking.
I have applied to two positions which I believe I would be an exceptional candidate for on your careers page. Account Executive - Community Safety and Sales Manager - Community Safety. I was drawn to the community safety team because in my background in real estate, I communicate with HOA’s and property management companies frequently. I have discovered crafty ways to find out who the decision maker is and what is important to them. Additionally, I served as Vice President of my HOA. While this was perhaps the most difficult –– and unpaid –– job I have ever had and I most likely will not do again, I was able to take some valuable skills from this role. Conflict resolution, assessing community needs, and negotiating contracts with vendors on behalf of the 152 home community to name a few.
I have found success in real estate in part because of my creative problem solving, consultative sales approach, and data driven decisions. Solving problems other brokers wouldn’t, allowed me to pick up additional business and build my reputation as someone who is hungry, unafraid to roll up my sleeves. I avoided referring to myself as a “real estate agent” due to the sales connotation and considered myself a true advisor to my clients, gaining their trust and friendship as the subject matter expert. I also used my background from running my own software startup, to incorporate technology and data to drive better decisions as these clients were entrusting me with the largest and perhaps most meaningful transaction of their lives.
Perhaps even more applicable to this role has been my experience starting and eventually selling a small software start-up. We were based in the Atlanta Tech Village and I was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company. From software development in conjunction with my CTO & co-founder, business development, investor relations/fundraising, and marketing –– I was wearing a lot of hats like any entrepreneur. As we grew and began hiring more people, I was able to refine my leadership skills. However, out of all of these roles, sales was at the core. I had to sell the vision to the team, sell the concept to investors and businesses using the platform, and sell the story to the media to generate organic PR.
Overall, I am excited by challenges and believe I can greatly contribute to the culture at [redacted] . Out of all of the companies I have explored, [redacted] is undoubtedly my top choice. The more research I do and employees I connect with on LinkedIn, the more excited I become at the prospect of working at [redacted]. Hence, why I printed and mailed this cover letter and resume, in hopes to stand out just a little bit.
Sincerely,
Subreddit
