Is it possible to do drugs without getting addicted?
Post Body

I’m in recovery, I’m an alcoholic and an addict in AA. The big book talks a lot in the front end about how alcoholics are just different from “normal” people (for lack of a better word) and drinking just affects us so differently. Like some people just have the ability to drink without it being a problem, or stop if it starts to become one, whereas an alcoholic cannot.

It’s making me wonder if the same is true for drugs. Like, it took me a while to accept I was an addict, but at the same time, I knew that normal people do not have the urge to do something like heroin or meth. I know most people don’t start shooting right out the gate and usually start with pills, but are there really people out there who could have a “wild Friday night” so to speak and not completely ruin their lives? Can someone casually do coke a few times? I have a hard time grasping that as someone who definitively can’t.
